IndiaAI Mission – AI Data Labs,
The IndiaAI Mission is the Government of India's flagship initiative to establish a robust Artificial Intelligence ecosystem by promoting AI research, innovation, skilling, and adoption across the country. As part of this national initiative, the Department of IT & Electronics, Government of Uttar Pradesh has been designated as the Nodal Administrative Department, while UPDESCO has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the AI Data Labs project as the State Nodal Agency.
An MoU was signed on 26 September 2025 between UPDESCO and the IndiaAI Mission for establishing AI Data Labs in Government Industrial Training Institutes (GITIs) across Uttar Pradesh. The project was initially approved for 49 AI Data Labs, which was subsequently expanded to 62 AI Data Labs by the Government of India.
The initiative aims to build state-of-the-art AI laboratories that provide students with practical exposure to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, and emerging digital technologies. These laboratories will strengthen AI education, enhance employability, support innovation, and contribute to the development of a skilled workforce capable of meeting future industry requirements.
The Government of India provides financial assistance for AI infrastructure, software, AI trainers, and technical manpower, while the Government of Uttar Pradesh supports laboratory renovation, furniture, digital classrooms, uninterrupted power supply, and internet connectivity to ensure world-class learning facilities.

Establishment of AI Data Labs

The initiative is jointly supported by the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh, providing financial assistance for IT infrastructure, AI software, trainers, technical manpower, laboratory renovation, furniture, UPS, digital whiteboards, and high-speed internet connectivity.
Industry-Oriented AI Skill Development
The project facilitates practical training in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Data Annotation, Data Curation, and Generative AI, preparing students with industry-relevant skills for emerging technology careers.
Robust Governance & Scalable Implementation
Project implementation is monitored through a State-Level Implementation Committee to ensure standardized execution, timely delivery, quality assurance, and the creation of a sustainable AI ecosystem across Uttar Pradesh.
